The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has debunked claims that there would fuel scarcity during the forthcoming festive season.
The corporation said its subsidiary, the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), would re-strategise for profitability.
The group managing director of NNPC, Maikanti Baru, also urged the PPMC to ensure a hitch-free supply of petroleum products across the country.
Speaking at the inauguration of the board of directors of PPMC on Tuesday, November 7, Baru said the adequate supply of petroleum products must even exceed beyond the festive season.
Also, the chief operating officer of the downstream, and alternate chairman of the board, Ikem Obi, said he was optimistic about the country’s downstream sector.
Obi said Nigeria would never return to the era of scarcity of products.
In addition, the managing director of PPMC, Umar Ajiya, said the resuscitation of depots in some parts of the country had contributed to the steady supply of products nationwide.
He further assured that the NNPC would be placed on the path of profitable while all other petroleum products would be made available alongside the PMS (fuel).
Also Nigerian Senate resolved to scrap the Excess Crude Account (ECA).
The account was created by the former president Olusegun Obasanjo's administration.
The scrapping of the ECA also coincided with the presentation of the 2018 budget by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, November 7.
